Getting involved with Spark Theater means joining a family of artists, dreamers, and theater lovers who show up because they want to be here. We produce offbeat comedies and dramas with local actors, and every single production depends on the hard work and passion of volunteers, performers, and supporters who give their time, talent, and resources to keep the curtain rising.
Audition for Our Shows
Our auditions are open to everyone. Seriously. You don't need an agent, a résumé as long as your arm, or a drama degree. You just need to show up, take a chance, and be willing to try. We cast actors of all experience levels, and we've seen complete beginners deliver performances that brought the house down. If you've been thinking about auditioning but you're nervous, know this: we've all been there, and we're rooting for you.
We typically hold auditions a few weeks before each production goes into rehearsal. Audition announcements include details about the show, the roles we're casting, what to prepare, and when and where to show up. We usually ask you to read from the script, and sometimes we'll have you do a cold reading with other actors so we can see how you work with a scene partner. The whole process is low-pressure and designed to let your personality and talent shine through.
Even if you don't get cast in your first audition, please come back and try again. Casting is a puzzle, and sometimes a role just isn't the right fit—but that doesn't mean you're not talented or that we don't want to work with you. Many of our most beloved ensemble members auditioned multiple times before landing their first role, and now they're part of the Spark Theater family. Volunteer Your Time and Skills
Every show we produce requires an small army of volunteers to make it happen. From the moment audiences walk through the door to the final curtain call, volunteers keep everything running smoothly. If you love theater but performing isn't your thing, volunteering is a fantastic way to be part of the magic without being in the spotlight.
Front-of-house volunteers are the friendly faces who greet patrons, help people find their seats, sell tickets, and make sure everyone feels welcome. You're the first impression our audiences get, and your warmth and enthusiasm set the tone for the entire evening. No experience necessary—just a smile and a willingness to help.
Backstage and tech volunteers work behind the scenes to build sets, hang lights, run sound and light boards during performances, help with costumes, manage props, and handle all the technical details that bring a production to life. If you're curious about the nuts and bolts of theater, this is where you get your hands dirty and learn how the magic really happens. We'll train you on anything you need to know, so don't worry if you've never touched a lighting console or a power drill.
Volunteering is also a great way to meet people, learn new skills, and become part of a creative community. Some of our volunteers have been with us for years, and they'll tell you that the friendships and experiences they've gained are every bit as rewarding as the applause at the end of a show.
