It’s one of those age-old truisms, nothing feels quite so good like accomplishing something for yourself! It’s super easy to forget though, or easy to just get lazy and sit back, only doing the work we already know how to do…which doesn’t stretch us at all.
This is the 2nd web project I’ve taken on, and I spent a lot more time flying solo on building this website. And while it may have taken me longer, and I definitely made way more mistakes than my brilliant webmaster friends, the feeling of knowing I persevered and figured it out makes the whole process so worth it!
It applies to everything: building your own sets and costumes, promoting your own show, learning to juggle… advice and help is a huge push in the right direction, but you really have to take ownership of getting it done to enjoy the pride of DIY!
It’s one of the founding concepts of Spark, we wanted to do our own work, and we wanted to open up new channels to present it. We’re doing things a little different because that’s just our style, and helps us feel like we’re really doing it for the right reasons.
