1. Anna Nicole, the opera. That’s right folks. The Royal Opera in London is premiering a new opera about sex, decadence, and celebrity (hmm, these themes sound familiar) Check out their website and the super rad promo video! Oh London, thou art so cool!
2. Three Sisters at Classic Stage Company in NYC. Actually, I’m covetous of the entire season. Woolf, Shakespeare, Moliere… sounds like heaven. I’m a Chekov junkie, and when you add that with the likes of Maggie Gyllenhaal and Peter Sarsgaard, it’s no wonder the whole run sold out before its opening.
3. Priscilla Queen of the Dessert Who doesn’t love some good old fashioned camp?! It’s frivolous, but just because I like my theater dark doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy a good gay romp now and again. Plus, it’s a movie to musical transition that actually makes sense (umm, Catch Me If You Can? Definitely NOT on the list)
4. Sex With Strangers at Steppenwolf in Chicago. One of the greatest theater companies in the country, this new play about sex, blogs, and relationships has all the makings of something great, including actually topical subject material, and most importantly a fantastic title. You hooked me!
5. Ajax and The Donkey Show …a perfect night at the American Repertory Theater in Boston. Watching two classics blown out of the water at two extremes. One a story of war, the other a story of love. A friend of mine played Titania its first year in Boston, and she had a blast every night. Sounds like my kind of party!
